thanks fo the hint, I was configuring with ./configure linux .... as usual. Later I found out, that I need to use linuxx8664gcc to configure the correct opions, as otherwise the -m64 option for the compiler is not set. And one gets 32bit and 64bit library mixing. Using the correct linuxx8664gcc architecture, all goes fine, even without explicite specification of directories for libX11 and libXpm.
