problem with checking the root

Dear all:
    I am installing root  v5.24 on ubuntu9.04.        (gcc  version is 3.4.6)
The root compilation end correctly.
I set the environment variables is : export PATH="$PATH  :/home/sunshaoping/GATE/ROOT5.24/bin  
when I type "root "in terminal of ubuntu9.04 , this is the printout:  sunshaoping_at_sunshaoping-desktop:~$ root /home/sunshaoping/GATE/ROOT5.24/bin/root.exe: error while loading shared libraries: libCore.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

How to solve this problem?
