You can either navigate through the directory structure in the left hand side of the TBrowser, or invoke root with the file name of your root file like this,

sunshaoping_at_sunshaoping-desktop:~$ root /path/to/myfile.root

If you do the later, you will find the root file under "ROOT files" on the left hand side of the TBrowser.
