drawing exclusion rectangles in histograms

Hi Rooters,
I'm apologizing for this perhaps stupid question. After having asked google and checked the tutorial section I couldn't find the following. I  have a certain histogram and I want to color parts of it (since they are excluded or for whatever reason) or just add a line. The only thing I could think about is to draw a TGraph which seems to be a bit unhandy... so i basically want to draw a histogram and add a rectangle in the background which would be on the pad but below the histogram itself. Any ideas? Or could anyone of you point me to an example? Thank you very much,
