Pythia8 with ROOT V5.27.02

Dear ROOTers

I am trying to compile the root version v5.27.02 with pythia8 from the source.

I get the following errors:

/usr/bin/ld: /home/pawan/pythia8135/lib/archive/libpythia8.a(Event.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC /home/pawan/pythia8135/lib/archive/libpythia8.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [lib/libEGPythia8.so] Error 1

For configuration I use:

./configure --enable-pythia8
--with-pythia8-incdir=/home/pawan/pythia8135/include
--with-pythia8-libdir=/home/pawan/pythia8135/lib/archive

and my machine specifications are:

uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-164.el5xen #1 SMP Sat Sep 5 20:00:11 CEST 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

gcc version:
Configured with: ../configure --prefix=/usr --mandir=/usr/share/man
