Given the time constraints I think we (CMS) are stuck and will wind up starting our (Xmas) 8TeV MC production and initial LHC 2011 datataking with 5.27/06 (+ patches). We will begin validating 5.28/00 when it comes out, but for the moment we can just say that we will try to figure out when to move back on mass shell (i.e. to 5.28/00) sometime after that. As I discussed with Rene a couple of weeks ago, we don't expect the ROOT team to main explicit patch releases for 5.27/00.

Given that we will initially be using 5.27/06, is there a reason _not_ to move to 5.27/06b? i.e. is there something among the patches there that was considered Alice-HI-specific and/or undesirable for general use? Or just the general principle that you would like people to move to 5.28/00 when it comes out (and not maintain 5.27/06 patch releases)?
