Hi Eduard,

   if ROOT is installed locally (and ROOTSYS points to a local directory, I don't directly understand why it would be so slow. We don't scan the local directory excepts for looking for a .rootrc file.

Concerning the .R development. The basics were quickly implemented, but to make it fully and solidly support all ROOT graphics operations does still require a serious amount of manpower, which we can at this time not allocate to this effort. I've played myself with NX as X11 alternative (on my MacBook over a 3G network) and it performed very impressively. See:
