thanks; I had indeed skipped this thread.

That said, in the info below, there are too many things. First off, do things work as expected in python instead of ipython? Second, there should be no reason to create a TRint, as there is already a TPyROOTApplication. As well, you can switch of the PyROOT thread:

   import ROOT
   ROOT.PyConfig.StartGuiThread = False
