You are completely right, we will fix this inconsistency.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask all ROOT users to,
please, report all inconsistensies in the ROOT API and any other defects 
in the system as soon as possible. We are currently working like mad 
towards version 1.0 (April time frame) and the more you report now the 
cleaner we can make the system.
