Dear Rooters,

the ROOT team is happy to announce the release of version 1.02
of the ROOT system. The most notable new features are:

  - Shared memory facility. Objects can now be shared between
    different processes using shared memory.
  - OpenGL viewer and OpenGL interface for all 3D ROOT objects.
  - Macro search path.
  - New TButton class which allows the interactive binding of any
    macro as action.
  - New TH1::ProjectionX() and TH1::ProjectionY() member functions.
  - Graphical tree cuts using new class TCutG.
  - Many more new smaller features
  - Many bug fixes

For an overview of the changes see:
   http://root.cern.ch/root/News.html.

Version 1.02 is a stable reference version superceeding all
previous versions.

In the new development cycle (v1.03) we plan to gradually
introduce developments in the area of threads, parallelism,
cross-platform GUI elements, large filesystem (64bit) support,
remote database access and a Java interface to histogram objects.
Stay tuned...

The ROOT Team,
