ROOT and HP's aCC...

Dear ROOT and HP/aCC users,

HP has recently released the 1.09 version of the aCC compiler
(and the 1.09 aCC runtime). This compiler fixes an important number
of bugs compared to the previously stable version 1.06. However, ROOT
compiled with 1.06 does not run with the 1.09 runtime (due to changes in
operator new[]() and operator delete[]()). I've fixed the problems and
built a new version of ROOT 1.03 with aCC 1.09. This new version is
now available from the ROOT web site at the usual place:
http://root.cern.ch/root/Version103.html

However, it turns out that the 1.09 runtime is not backward compatible
with the 1.06 runtime. Since we've not enough resources to support
both 1.06 and 1.09 we advice everybody to get the aCC 1.09 from the
HP support website and to upgrade their machines. At CERN most Atlas
and CMS machines have already been upgraded.

Cheers, Fons.
