Hi Matt, the ROOT CVS repository is imminent. Concerning the current update and release schedule (in addition to what Rene already mentioned). The idea is (and practice has been) that once per 2 weeks we make a "minor" release. A minor release includes: - all new developments and bug fixes up to that moment in time - the minor release number is bumped up (from 2.22/09 to 2.22/10) - source tarball is generated - binaries for all supported platforms are generated (>15 versions) - release notes web page is updated (http://root.cern.ch/root/html/examples/V2.22.txt.html) - html reference guide is generated - announcement on roottalk However, often there is the case where somebody reports a particular nasty bug that needs immediate fixing or some urgent small new feature. Of course it is out of the question to repeat for each bug fix the complete minor release procedure (except in the case of an absolute showstopper). So the idea is that in those cases we just make available a new source tarball (with the same minor number) OR when the CVS repository is online we will checkin this bug fix immediately. People affected by the bug can ftp the source or update their local CVS repository (which saves bandwidth) and build their own ROOT. Cheers, Fons. Matthew D.
