failure to compile ROOT latest production version

Hi,

I downloaded (yesterday) root_v2.22.source.tar.gz and
 root_v2.22.Linux.2.2.3.egcs111.tar.gz from the ROOT site. I am
running RedHat 5.2, completely stock with all updates. egcs version:

egcs -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/egcs-2.90.29/specs
gcc version egcs-2.90.29 980515 (egcs-1.0.3 release)

Clearly not the same as the binary package I downloaded (which
rewarded me with a missing libstc++ shared library error message) but
the ROOT installation guide said to download the binary most closely
resembling the one I want to build. Building proceeds normally until
the following message:

g++ -O -Wall -fPIC -DR__GLIBC -c EG_Generator.cxx
EG_Generator.cxx: In method `int TGenerator::ImportParticles(class TClonesArray *, const char * = "")':
EG_Generator.cxx:205: warning: value computed is not used
EG_Generator.cxx:226: warning: value computed is not used
EG_Generator.cxx:230: Internal compiler error.
EG_Generator.cxx:230: Please submit a full bug report to `egcs-bugs@cygnus.com'.
make: *** [EG_Generator.o] Error 1

What action should I take now? Should I "downgrade" ROOT until I can
upgrade my RedHat installation?
