interface to retrieve material cross-section

Hi VMC experts,
I'd like to retrieve dE/dX and cross-section tables via the TVirtualMC interface for a given material. This functionality is that offered in Geant3 by:

CALL GFTMAT (IMATE,IPART,CHMECA,KDIM,TKIN,VALUE*,PCUT*,IXST*) I see that TGeant3 offers the Gftmat(...) function, but the interface is not supported by the base class TVirtualMC. Could use please add an interface to access the dE/dX and cross-section tables by material to the TVirtualMC class? Or is there already some other method of accessing this information without invoking the derived class method for each concrete monte carlo? Thanks very much for your help!
