weird y-axis labels

Hi rooters,
        I have a 2-dim histogram in the range [837.5,5296.5]
        on both axis, drawn as a contour plot. How is it that
        I get labels 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and so on on the
        x axis and labels 837.5, 1283.4 and so on on the y axis?
        I'm running ROOT 2.23/12.
