Hi Rene,

I have asked this silly question because the TTF note at the top of the root
download page is a bit misleading. It advertises the TTF fonts in a way one
has to install them as a stand=alone extension of the root distribution.
That's why I was curious having seen TTF dir in my binary distribution.

Yes if you use the standard binary distributions.
If you have installed Root from source yourself, you must make sure that
to have the library libttf.so (see AA_INSTALL).
On NT, true type fonts are always there.
You can activate/deactivate the ttf by setting the flag true/false
in your .rootrc file. I hope that .rootrc is self documenting.
