I experience the same error message when compiling 2.23/12 on my 
present Solaris system. A colleague of mine working on Solaris 
regularly informs me that this is an indication of a compiler bug, and 
that one needs to install recent patches to CC5.0 available from Sun to 
fix the problem.

I am trying to get my local system manager to install these patches to 
verify this personally.
