Hi Jack,

First, a clarification: mn_fit is not in PAW.
mn_fit is an interesting subset of PAW with added functionality
for fitting. The author Ian Brock did a very nice job.

The functionality you describe in your mail does not seen very difficult
to add to ROOT/Minuit. Just note that with 3.02, you can
 - fix one or more parameters
 - fit over non-contiguous bin ranges

It would be nice if Ian could collaborate with us to extend ROOT fitting
as he did in mn_fit. I will see with him.
