Hello Tobias,

I have used your "simplest how to reproduce" the problem with "TCanvas c1"

I tried two versions from one and the same X11-client and two different X11-servers (eXceed v9.0 and eXceed v.10) combinations

ROOT 4.04 manifests no problem:

root [0] TCanvas c1
root [1]

ROOT 5.05 does cause XREQ:88

root [0] TCanvas c1
root [1] Error in <RootX11ErrorHandler>: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) (XID: 15749119, XREQ: 88)

Neither combination causes any problem with Qt layer ON.

Hope this helps

Best regards
                   Valeri
