As Philippe has already mentioned I do not have access to any machines with your exact configuration, so I cannot exactly duplicate your environment. If you can get me access to some machines which do, that would be a help.

I must assume that when you made this switch, you were then using a completely different root executable that had been compiled and linked in this environment. Or are you saying that you took the root executable from the SL 3.0.8/glibc???/gcc 3.2.3 environment and used it in the SL 4.4/glibc???/gcc 3.4.6 environment?

What I need to know is under which os/glibc/gcc version the root executables you are using were compiled and linked, and then further under which os/glibc/gcc these root executables when used lead to a crash.
