I see. Good that you found the source of the problem, that's very helpful. I'd recommend you to file a bug report (severity no higher than "important") against kvm in Debian, giving full details of exactly what goes wrong and how to reproduce the problem [1]. Unfortunately I suspect whatever is going wrong is probably sufficiently complicated that it will be very hard to track down, so I don't make any promises that Debian folks will be able to fix it soon.
