Bildverarbeitung?

Hi Roottalkers,

I am curious whether one can use ROOT for astronomic topics, since it already contains a lot of quite useful methods for that.

Specifically I want to build an interactive vizualization/processing tool. Unfortunately, my last contact to ROOT was about 7 years ago, and many things may have been changed since then...

In addition to the typical HEP features, I would need a kind of image processing: show images (size in the order of 4k*4k) with custom color palettes, select a [rectangular|circular|random] region and apply f.e. a 2d fit to them, and so on. A special "goody" would be the processing of non-rectangular (low-res) images and of 3d-images (coordinates + wavelength/energy).

Also needed is the use of astronomy specific data formats (images, n-tupes) instead of ROOT ones.

What features according to these topics are already in the current ROOT version, and would it make sense to add the missing ones? Is there alreasy someone using ROOT on astronomical data?

Ciao

Ole
