I'm not aware of the status of other distros, but to my mind, Debian support doesn't look very good. ROOT v5.18 has been removed from testing:

There was an upload of ROOT v5.24 to unstable in October 2009, but many issues are blocking the migration to testing:

I'm not aware of all the details of Debian's release process, but I think it is safe to assume that if these problems aren't fixed soon, the upcoming Debian release will be without ROOT.
