Good remark! I'm not an extensive Mac user, but sometimes I do, and I realized there are two main methods of getting unix software installed on Mac - fink and macports. Which of these two is the recommended approach for using ROOT on a Mac ? Also, is XCode to be installed or one of the above mentioned methods would bring a gcc version usable with ROOT ? Thanks!
