command line editing

 Hi 

  I have probles with the command line editing in root 
  ( v1.03/08  on Digital Unix 3.2) : 

  In an xterm window the arrow keys do not correspond 
  to ^p ^n ^b and ^f and the tab key does not 
  give command line completion. 

  The manual says that on DOS and ANSI terminals the arrow keys 
  should act as the corresponding emacs key bindings. ( page 23 of
  ROOT overview ) What needs to be set that this features are
  activated in an xterm window ? 

  The information given on the tab key function 
  on the same page is not very helpful either : 

   " can be rebound  by the programmer as described below ... ". 

  It is not clear to me where this 'below' refers to !?
