Hi rooters, as promised before we published now the QtROOT interface developed by Denis Bertini, GSI. This interface supports the full functionality of both, ROOT and Qt. The main features are: 1. No changes in Root or Qt are necessary. 2. Root canvas embedded in a QWidget 3. Drag and Drop option 5. Qt windows can be used in parallel to the ROOT native ones. 6. Full Qt-Designer support 7. Full functionality of TApplication preserved. Recommended use with ROOT >= 3.01/06 and Qt v3 (single thread) on Linux Tested on Linux (2.2.19): Debian 2.2 R3 and RedHat 7.1 Some remarks: The interface is used and tested by Mohammad Al-Turany developing the Go4 GUI in the full complex Go4 environment (multitasking, ROOT threads). The Go4 GUI is developed using the QT designer. The experience is very positive. The combination of ROOT and Qt runs stable. The option of using Qt makes ROOT for us more attractive. At GSI the development of Go4 is concentrated on Linux. Currently it is not envisioned to implement Go4 on other platforms. Therefore we cannot contribute much to the WNT discussion or the "ROOT & Qt, Swing, GUIs, Graphics Abstraction" thread. Our Website (http:\\go4.gsi.de) has been updated by a list of packages and their status and availability (ftp download from there). Currently GSI follows the GPL license model. If the future ROOT license model comes up, GSI may follow this one. Regards, Hans Essel Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung, GSI Planckstr.1, 64291 Darmstadt, Germany --49-615971-2491 Fax -2986
